Fast Ethernet Installation Switch 45x45 manageable

With the MICROSENS installation components, you can intelligently combine the advantages of fiber optics and twisted-pair cabling in a future-proof investment that will pay off for years to come. Because the fiber optic connection from the central switch or hub is converted to copper lines, there is no need to install fiber connectors on the end devices, e. g., PCs, laptops, printers, IP telephones, etc. Instead, they are connected directly to the installation switch using standardized twisted-pair patch cables. Besides an extremely compact footprint, the 45x45 design offers no-tool snap-in installation, making set-up extremely easy. The switch also provides compatibility with standard installation systems in use all over the world. Installing the new switch below flooring is a "snap". It can even be installed in a double connection box - the smallest floor-mounting installation element - with a fiber connector. In addition to switching functionality, the new generation of installation components provides expanded options for configuration and monitoring. Among the most important new de-velopments is the implementation of port-based VLANs allowing the total in-tegration of switches into company-wide VLANs. Single VLANs can be terminated port based.
For time-sensitive applications such as VoIP applications, the data packets can be priorized for transmission within the switch. The MICROSENS installation switch supports three modes for prioritization: - Based on Layer 2, priorization is achieved by setting the priority field in the VLAN tag according to IEEE802.1q. - The Differentiated Service mode (DiffServ) is based on a type of service field in the IP header (Layer 3). - Hardware-based port configuration: general priorization of the port over the other connections of the switch (Layer 1). The internal weighting of the priorization can be adjusted in several stages .
As a management alternative to the Device Manager all status information can also be visualized web-based using an integrated http-server. For monitoring of ongoing operations, detailed statistical values such as data throughput and failure rate are collected. Each switch has its own IP address, which can be configured manually or assigned by DHCP. An individual identification string can be stored permanently in the device.
The Power-over-Ethernet functionality according to the new IEEE802.3af standard is integrated into the installation switch. The standard defines the functions of both the Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and of the Powered Device (PD). A handshake protocol between PSE and PD negotiates the current supply where several levels are possible. The Installation switch is equipped with an external intelligent extension unit (MS450290) for the PoE supply. Each of the four 10/100-TX ports can supply the 48VDC in addition to the data. The power is supplied according to the IEEE 802.3af standard via the unused wires of the RJ-45 socket (wire 4 and 5: positive line, wire 7 and 8: negative line). Because of the modular configuration the enhancement with the PoE function can be done after the installation at a later time. For that migration path it is required to use the Installation switch (MS45023xPM) with the interface connector in order to connect to the PoE extension unit. The link between the Installation switch and the PoE extension unit is communicating via cable which stays hidden within the cable channel.
