The MICROSENS Ethernet Media Converter allows the direct connection of twisted pair and FO-segments in an Ethernet network, according to the IEEE 802.3 standard.

The direct connection permits the extension of twisted pair cable beyond the limit of 100 m. As a result of the repeaterless connection the maximum possible number of repeaters allowed in a network remains unaffected.

The converter supports full as well as half duplex connections. In the half duplex mode distances of up to 2 km can be covered (Multimode) or up to 5 km (Single mode), in the full duplex mode up to 10 km (Single mode).

The Link status of the segment is transmited by the converter (‘Link-Through’), which means that in case of a link failure on the optical side no link on the twisted pair side is generated (and vice versa). The integration of two independent converters into the one insertion module permits a very hight port density in a single insertion rack
(24 ports maximum)

The converter is constructed in the form of an insertion card, which can be built into the MICROSENS 19" patch panel, with a central PSU. The unit houses a maximum of up to 12 insertion cards ( 24 converters ) and one PSU.
